The Laboratory of Nanostructures has been conducting nanoparticle research for nearly 20 years, including 6 years of nanomaterials for regenerative medicine. The team has developed a technology of nanohydroxyapatite synthesis with properties analogous to the properties of natural human bone, inducing cell growth, resorbable and biocompatible. This material was registered under the GoHAP ™ trade name.
The laboratory holds a patent for ultrasound coating of orthopedic implants with hydroxyapatite nanoparticles. Ultrasonic technology is also effective in the application of antimicrobial ZnO and Ag nanoparticles to medical fabrics and implants.
The most important laboratory specialties are:
- synthesis of nanoparticles,
- characterization of nanomaterials,
- staff competence,
- medical applications of nanotechnology.
The Laboratory of Nanostructures is equipped with devices for complex morphological and structural characterization of nanoparticles and their physicochemical properties. Moreover, it is the only laboratory in Poland accredited by the Polish Accreditation Centre for the management system to PN-EN ISO / IEC 17025 "General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories", related to the methods of measuring key properties of nanomaterials. The fact of obtaining accreditation No. AB 1503 means recognition of our competence by independent experts, guarantee the correct measurement procedures, conducting detailed analysis of measurement uncertainty as to its accuracy, conduct the required standard documentation and consistency of measurement. This is a much higher level of competence than standard research base laboratory. It performs certified measurements of the average size of nano-particles, their size distribution, zeta potential of solutions, morphology studied using a scanning electron microscope, the chemical composition in micro regions. Moreover we perform measurements of BET specific surface area, density determination by pycnometry, thermal properties by thermogravimetric (Thermogravimetry-TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (Differential Scanning Calorimetry-DSC). Both versatility study of nanomaterials characterization, as well as a large number of methods certified situate Laboratory of Nanostructures in a unique position not only in Poland, but also in Europe.
